Pattern formation in growing sandpiles

Dhar, Sadhu & Chandra (2008 ) study the patterns produced by adding grains on a two-dimensional integer lattice. In the cases they studied the size of the pattern rises as \sqrt{n} where n is  the number of grains added. They provide give exact characterization of the asymptotic pattern, in terms of the position and shape of different features of the pattern.

The aim of this project is to consider and extend Dhar et al‘s findings for other lattices, in particular for the triangular lattice:
